Further Studies on IV-Variants of Salmonella typhi-murium (Aertrycke) with Special Reference to Cultures from Pigeons.

چکیده
Landsteiner and Levine (1932) were the first workers to note that certain cultures of Salmonella typhi-murium were devoid of antigen V of the Kauffmann-White schema. They noted this deficiency in the Binns strain of Schiitze (1920). Kauffmann (1934) examined 256 cultures of S. typhi-murium and found 16 of them lacking in antigen V. The cultures exhibiting this peculiar deficiency in their somatic antigens, and designated by Kauffmann as S. typhi-murium var. Copenhagen, are commonly referred to as IV-variants. Their antigenic formula is IV XII: i: 1, 2, 3 instead of IV V XII: i: 1, 2, 3 which represents typical strains of S. typhi-murium. Zahn (1935) found one IV-variant in 74 cases of S. typhi-murium infection. All the TV-variants described by the investigators cited above were isolated from human sources. Since it is well known that S. typhi-murium infection in man almost invariably has its origin in some animal reservoir of infection, it is important from an epidemiologic as well as an academic standpoint that the zoological distribution of the IV-variants be determined. Edwards (1935) reported that six cultures of S. typhi-murium isolated from pigeons belonged to the IV-variety. Hoffmann and Edwards (1937) reported the presence of IV-variants in an infection of rabbits. The rabbits were housed in hutches which

A Serological Variant of Salmonella aertrycke Isolated from Pigeons.
The occurrence of Salmonella aertrycke in diseases of pigeons has been noted by a number of workers. Recently Jungherr and Wilcox (1934) and Black (1935) have reported the isolation from pigeons of variants of S. aertrycke which were atypical in their action on maltose. Among cultures isolated from the same flock were found organisms which caused a prompt production of acid and gas from the sug...

Introduction & Objective : Salmonella is one of the most important genus of Enterobacteriacea family. The aim of this study was typing of typhoidal Salmonella by SDS-PAGE and comparing the results with those of serotyping method. Materials and Methods: In this study, 4 reference strains of Salmonella species, 5 reference strains of Enterobacteriacea family and 100 clinical isolates of Salmon...

two organisms with bacteriophage active against the bacterial contaminant. We undertook to carry out the latter procedure. The contaminating bacteria were isolated by plating on agar and identifiedv as belonging to the salmonella group. They fermented glucose, mannite, maltose, arabinose and dulcite with the production of acid and gas; lactose, saccharose, and salicin were not affected. Litmus ...
متن کاملCloning and sequencing of ompf Salmonella typhi Salmonella ompf gene in Escherichia coli Origami
Background and Aim: Salmonella Typhi belongs to the family Enterobacteriaceae, gram-negative bacilli and causes gastrointestinal diseases such as typhoid. This bacterium has a special structure and various genes, including the ompf gene (outer membrane protein). Recent studies have shown the possibility of using ompf in the development of a diagnostic tuberculosis vaccine. Therefore, the aim of...
متن کاملIncidence of Salmonella Infection in Rats in Calcutta
Review of literature.?In England and America rats have been incriminated as important reservoirs of salmonella organisms. Savage and Read (1913) examined the liver, spleen, focces and heart-blood of 41 rats and isolated five strains of Salmonella enteritidis. Savage and White (1923) isolated six strains of the same organism from the liver, heart-blood and intestinal content of 96 rats. Kerrin (...
